Gulf University for Science and Technology Holds 12th Annual Book and Information Fair

• Professor Donald Bates, Professor Salah Al Sharhan, and Mrs. Shobhita Kohli opened GUST’s Book and Information Fair

• Book Fair target students and alumni to discover what’s new and available in the library

• Three new books by current and former GUST family members were released and promoted at the fair

Kuwait City – 2 March 2016: Gulf University for Science and Technology (GUST) held its 12th Annual Book and Information Fair today on its campus. The event, which was organized by the A. M. Al-Refai Library, aims at connecting students and alumni with publishers, and to give them the opportunity to discover what’s new and available in the library. The event was attended by the university’s top management, and officially opened by GUST President Professor Donald Bates, Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Salah Al Sharhan, and Library Director Mrs. Shobhita Kohli.

Sponsors of the event included That Al Salasil, GUST’s campus bookstore, and Naseej, Arabian Advanced Systems, agents for EBSCO, ProQuest, Ebrary, and Safari literature online databases.

Also at the ceremony was Assistant Professor of the English Department Dr. Robert Kirkpatrick, former GUST student Ms. Anwar Al Otaibi, and former GUST staff member Mr. Abdulaziz M. Al-Maosherji, who were there to promote the publication of their new books. English Language Education Policy in Asia was edited by Dr. Kirtpatrick, whilst A Call Without Noise and Memento Mori were original works penned by Ms. Anwar Al Otaibi, and Mr. Abdulaziz Al Maosherji respectively.

GUST President, Professor Donald Bates, said “Our focus at GUST is to constantly provide our students and faculty with opportunities that help create, build, and expand their horizons in the interest of promoting the environment of knowledge and learning. Seeing three books published by GUST family members gives the Library a real boost, and proves that it is not only alive, but a vital component of our University”.

The Book and Information Fair offers leading publishers a platform to display the latest editions of books and online catalogs. It also provides online service providers the opportunity to introduce their latest products and innovations available in the world of technology to help students further develop their knowledge in this field.

The Book and Information Fair is a yearly event open to all students and alumni for free.
