GUST Welcomes New Faculty Onboard

  

KUWAIT CITY, Kuwait – September 1, 2015. Gulf University for Science and Technology (GUST) welcomed its new faculty at its campus with a three-day orientation this week. The orientation allowed new faculty members to meet university’s top management, its departments and existing faculty, while also getting acquainted with the existing processes and procedures to ensure a seamless transition into their new roles.
Welcoming 17 new faculty members from Kuwait, Europe, and the U.S.A., GUST President, Professor Donald Bates said: “For some of you, this may be your first experience living in this region, and we aim to make your experience as pleasant and as enriching as possible. At GUST, we pride ourselves in the close relationship our students have with our faculty, which in turn fosters respect and a sense of community. ”
The event was also attended by Dr. Sabah Al-Quaddoomi, VP of Academic Services, Dr. Salah Al-Sharhan, VP of Academic Affairs, Mohammad Al-Nasiri, HR Director, Dr. Mohammad Elian, Acting Dean of the College of Business Administration, Dr. Ronald Goodwin, Assistant Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences, and faculty members. The orientation was divided into three days to ensure coverage of all information the new faculty need before the whirlwind of the academic year.
Following welcoming speeches from top management, the first day of orientation continued with the Human Resources Department reviewing their services, faculty benefits, issues to be aware of, while also touching on the university’s policies and procedures. In their turn, the Academic Affairs Division gave a better understanding of the academic environment in the region.
Faculty members were then taken on a tour of the campus by the Public Relations Department, allowing them to become more familiar with the campus and how to get around. Following the tour, faculty met with the Academic Services Division, who gave an overview of the department, and introduced their different services including the Student Success Center and the Admissions and Registration departments. The Administrative and Financial division discussed processes relevant to faculty including salaries and payments. The Planning and Development Division, covered Institutional Effectiveness and Strategic Planning which focuses on the development of the university, and all the other development services available at GUST.
The second day will cover GUST’s online systems including an overview of the A.M Al-Refai Library services and procedures, while the final day of the orientation will focus more on a detailed understanding of the SSC, and networking with current faculty, as well as getting insights and tips on exceling at the university.
