GUST Honors Outstanding Students at the College of Business Administration
Kuwait City, 06/5/2015: Gulf University for Science and Technology (GUST) today held an award ceremony to recognize the achievements of its outstanding students from the College of Business Administration (CBA). The event, under the patronage of Professor Salah Al Sharhan, Vice President for Academic Affairs, awarded students who have maintained a 3.8 GPA, and who have accumulated no less than 75 credits by the end of the 2014/2015 academic year.
· 22 students honored for their outstanding achievements
· GUST’s CBA achieved AACSB-International Accreditation – an accreditation awarded to less than 5% of the world’s business schools.
· Masters degrees in Accounting and Finance to be offered thanks to partnership with UMASS-Lowell – pending final approval from the Private Universities Council on the exact starting date
GUST Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Salah Al Sharhan, said, “Award ceremonies that acknowledge the academic achievements of students are potent gauges of how a university is developing. The success of our students is our number one priority. Seeing so many of them motivated and driven to be the best is a strong indication that GUST is genuinely offering a premier education.”
The College of Business Administration is made up of three distinct departments: Accounting & Management Information Systems (MIS), Economics & Finance, and Business Administration, and offers students the opportunity to pursue six different majors: Accounting, MIS, Finance, International Business, Management and Organizational Behaviour, and Marketing.
Acting Dean of the College of Business Administration, Dr. Mohammed Elian, said, “The success of our students reflects our success as educators in preparing them for the world after graduation. As faculty, we are dedicated to forming the next generation of leaders who can compete ethically and with passion locally and internationally”.
In 2014, GUST’s College of Business Administration joined less than 5% of the world’s business programs to achieve AACSB-International accreditation. GUST is the only private university in the country to receive this esteemed recognition by AACSB, an institution that has been devoted to the advancement of management education for over 95 years. AACSB represents the highest achievement for all business schools.
Earlier this year, GUST signed an agreement with UMass-Lowell to offer new dual-degree masters programs and a new undergraduate engineering program. Among the new courses to be offered at GUST, Masters in Accounting and Finance will be administered by the CBA. Other new courses to be offered include Innovation & Technological Entrepreneurship, Computer Science, Education, and Engineering are expected to commence in September 2015 (pending final approval from the Private Universities Council on the exact starting date). The new programs are accredited under the same standards as those offered on the UMass-Lowell campus in the USA, and 16 UMass-Lowell faculty and administrators are expected to move to Kuwait by September. With this development, GUST will be the only university in Kuwait whose students graduate with an accredited American degree.
