GUST Organizes Charity Iftar for Laborers
• 500 Street Laborers and Sanitation Workers invited to join GUST students and staff for Iftar
• Event held at Fakhr El Deen Restaurant in Kuwait City
• Second Ramadan-themed event to be hosted by GUST
Kuwait City, 8th July 2015: On the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan, Gulf University for Science and Technology (GUST) hosted a charity iftar for nearly 500 of Kuwait’s street laborers and sanitation workers at the Fakhr El Deen Restaurant. Students, faculty, and staff, were invited to share in the experience.
Organized and hosted by the University’s Office of Student Life (OSL) and Public Relations (PR) Department, the Iftar brought together different people from various backgrounds and religions to sit, eat, and socialize as one. This reflects the true spirit and nature of Ramadan as a time of giving and generosity.
Donald Bates, GUST President, said, “This iftar serves as a golden opportunity to show off GUST’s altruistic nature. It gives me great pleasure to see so many familiar faces from our staff and students come and share a meal with workers, and show their gratitude for all of the help they give us throughout the year.
The iftar is the first of its kind to be organized by GUST, and will set a precedent for the years to come, as the university constantly seeks ways to give back to the community.
Anwar al Sabah, Head of OSL, said, “Ramadan helps us remember the value of others regardless of their race or background which inevitably brings all of us together. Ultimately, our aim is to try and make a positive difference to the lives of as many people as possible. These laborers are our heroes, and we want to show our appreciation for everything they do to help our country.”
The charity iftar is the second in a series of Ramadan-themed events that the university has organized. From the 14th until the 17th of June, GUST held its first ever graish-themed Student Recruitment Gala, where prospective students and their families were invited to visit the campus, learn about the University, and register free of charge
