MBA Trip to London Press Release
MBA students from the Gulf University for Science and Technology (GUST) completed an off-campus course at the London Stock Exchange Academy last month. The selected students participated in a five-day practical course on ‘Strengthening Capital Markets Knowledge’.
The course gave students an insight, as well as valuable hands-on experience, in conducting stock exchange on sound scientific grounds, and introduced principles of the stock market and how to create a new idea and put it into practice.
The sessions also explored financial analysis of the market fluctuations, IPOs, the role of capital markets in economic development, the fund raising options that capital markets can offer to companies to boost their growth, pre-trade, post-trade and many other concepts. The course material was delivered to students using ‘active learning’ techniques, with interactive case-studies and simulations.
The course program included enriching company visits to present exemplary practices by leading businesses such as FTSE, Bank of America Merrill Lynch trading desks and others. The overall experience helped the students to build on their knowledge on Corporate Governance and Investor Relations practices, which are key components for a sound management system in listed companies.
The MBA participants were also presented with the opportunity to present and reflect on their views about the future opportunities offered to Kuwaiti companies by international capital markets.
GUST’s overseas courses have always been widely popular and appreciated by our students. This, along with previous MBA ventures like last summer’s ‘Innovation and Negotiation in International Business Management’ in Boston, has extended the reputation of the program to other institutions as well as the community in Kuwait. These exciting courses serve as a tool to build bridges with prestigious world-renowned institutions.
The MBA Director, Prof. Issam Moghrabi, emphasizes the joyful rich experience our students went through. Such courses have always been popular to the MBA students and have always received a positive feedback since the impact is not just vocational but also social as well as cultural. It is a transformational professional endeavor that we are keen to maintain and nurture. It is something classroom cannot offer and an expertise we cannot easily match.
