The College of Education hosted digital camera inventor, Steven Sasson
Under the patronage and presence of Kuwait University President Prof. Abdulateef Al Bader, along with Dean of College of Education Prof. Najat Al Mutawa and assistant Dean of Research, Consultation and Training Affairs Dr. Fayez Al Dhafiri. The College of Education hosted digital camera inventor, Steven Sasson. The visit’s aim is to introduce the achievements of the digital camera inventor, who presented the first model of the camera of an accuracy of 0.02 megapixels while he was working as an electronic engineer at Kodak Company. Steven Sasson received a patent for this work in 1978.
Sasson managed his first digital camera project to store images on flash memory, and joined the renowned Hall of Fame in 2011, his invention reached world’s population using digital cameras in most smartphones and tablets. His inventions had a great impact in many applications in the field of medicine and education.
Among the most prominent awards attained by Sasson: Eastman Innovation Award e 2001, the 2006 Progress Award, Photographic Society of America; the 2007 Visionary Award, Photographic Manufacturers and Distributors Association; the 2008 Culture Award of the Photographic Society of Germany; and the 2010 George R. Stibitz Computer & Communications Pioneer Award, National Medal of Technology and Innovation presented by President of the US Barrak Obama
On this occasion, KU President inquired about the affect of the scientific research in institutions and he answered by stating that research has great impact in institutions, and it was a great one at Kodak company although it faced a great loss, in addition to enriching the digital camera industry, stressing on the need to exert in research and its applications
In conclusion a memorial shield was presented to the digital camera inventor Steven Sasson.
