Masters Degree Thesis on Screening of Mutation of the gene in the sample of Arab-Kuwaitis
anfal Ali Jassim From Bahrain was granted a Masters Degree in Molecular Biology from the College of Graduate
Studies at Kuwait University on her thesis entitled: “Screening for Putative Mutation at APOA5 Gene Locus In a Sample of Arab-Kuwaitis with Dyslipidemia “ which was within the joint graduate program in Molecular Biology, which was under the supervision of Dr. Suzanne Al Bustan and Dr. Wafaa Al Kandari who are faculty members at the Biology Department.
Also, student, Zainab Hassan Malallah from Bahrain was also granted a Masters Degree in Molecular Biology from the College of Graduate Studies on her thesis entitled: “Screening for Putative Mutation at APOC3 Gene Locus in a Sample of Arab-Kuwaitis with Dyslipidemia” which was under the supervision of Dr. Suzanne Al Bustan, and Dr Ahmed Al Serri, faculty members at the Pathology Department at Kuwait University. An assessment committee, headed by Dr. Olsigan Mujimini, Head of the Pathology Department at KU, certified the test results.
These studies are considered first in the field, where it can determine the complete genetic chain of the lipoprotein gene APOA5 and APOC3 from a sample of Kuwaitis from Arab origins. The results and conclusions, in this study provide new information about the genetic pattern of Arab-Kuwaiti’s. Consequently, the discovery of two genetic forms, which were not discovered before, opens a door for new studies to guarantee the certainty of these newly discovered genetic evidence. They also assist in knowing their impact on the general Health on the Kuwaiti Society or any other Arabic Society. An example, these studies help discover types of genetics and their relation, to common diseases like fat level imbalance, heart disease and diabetes. Therefore, these results can aid us in developing awareness on prevention, diagnosis and treating fat-level imbalance diseases in the Kuwaiti Society.
